Old Town, The Streets Full of History
About this experience
More than a tour, an experience. Tour the historic center with a local friend who brings the streets of Casco Viejo to life with stories, culture, and traditions. You will learn about the history of Panama and how Panama la Vieja was moved to the old town, along with many other fascinating historical insights. Your host Ana Rebeca is passionate about Panamanian culture and its history. She has been guiding tourists through Casco Viejo for years, showing the essence of its streets, flavors, and traditions. Her local perspective and deep knowledge make this more than just a walking tour. Meet at Cafe Sucre in the heart of Casco Viejo and begin your journey through centuries of history. Visit La Merced Church, which was the first church to be moved from Panama la Vieja to the Old Town, setting the foundation for this historic neighborhood. Explore Plaza Herrera, named in honor of General Tomas Herrera. From the square, you will see remains of the wall that once surrounded the town, a reminder of the fortified city that protected against pirates and invaders. Visit the Museo de la Mola where you will learn about the mola textile art, how it is created, and the origins of the Gunas, one of the indigenous groups of Panama. This cultural stop adds depth to your understanding of Panamanian heritage. Discover the Church of the Society of Jesus, built in the 17th century. This church was one of the most important educational and religious centers in colonial Panama. End your tour at the History Museum where you will learn about the history of Panama, including the canal during the French era and much more. This comprehensive tour gives you a complete picture of how modern Panama came to be. Guests ages 18 and up can attend, up to 9 guests total.
